Warm Up Times and other stuff

July 16, 2009 at 10:12 pm | In swim | Comments Off

Friday: 1 o’clock

Saturday: 7:30 AM

Sunday: 8:00 AM

Directions on Mapquest. …. ….       http://www.mapquest.com/mq/9-ebNO

It’s basically across from the Parthenon, next to Centennial Hospital.. on 25th ave.,  if that helps any.

Parking can be tricky at the Sportsplex. There are two lots, along the side-front and another lot back of the building. (on the Ice rink end)

Parking along Brandau is also possible at times. Be prepared to circle the parking lot a couple of times for a spot, or hike in from the way back lot. It isn’t as far as it looks, and the weather promises to be nice.

Get there early is the best advice….  and bring folding chairs and a lawn blanket or two for the kids to spread out on under the tents. The kids will be in the clerk of course for part of the time, but waiting can seem like an eternity if they don’t have anything to do.

While swimming is why we are there, we do have to endure some wait times just like any swim meet.

ADVICE:   BRING amusements

Food and snacks. Bring a picnic, and bottles of water.

Other ideas:

Gameboy + games (note to self- plug it in to charge the night before)

IPOD  – (see note on gameboy)

cards, travel games, or a book to read.

Money for the snack bar (long wait in line usually, though)

Money for the ICEE truck (if you want)

=================================================

And don’t forget your sharpie marker– one more time!

Put the child’s name, club name, and event number(s) on the left shoulder before they go into the clerk of course tent.

Important Information For 6 and Under Swimmers

July 12, 2009 at 2:20 pm | In swim | Comments Off

The City Meet is a great experience for 6 and under swimmers and one that ought not be missed.  The NSL asks us to publish the following for 6 and under swim parents to navigate the meet.

Nashville Swim League

 City Meet

Centennial Sportsplex, Nashville, TN

Special Instructions for 6 & Under Session

Hillwood 6 and Unders warm up at 1:00.  The warm up is quick…don’t miss it!  Plan to be ready at 12:45 (caps on, ready to roll)

Hillwood Tents:  Will be in the yard facing Brandau Pl. (off 25th avenue).  Look for our big banners.

Clerk of Course:  The Clerk of Course tent for the 6 & Under swimmers will be located outside the back door of the Sportsplex.  The tent will be clearly marked.

Procedure:  Put the child’s name, club name, and event number(s) on the left shoulder before the child comes to the Clerk of Course area.  Add heat numbers if you know them.

After Warm-up:  Bring 6 & Under girls to the Clerk of Course area at 1:30 p.m.   Boys, stay close and listen for your event number to be announced.

At the Entrance to Clerk of Course:  Kiss and hug .  .  .  no parents allowed past this point.  We will take good care of them!

The children will sit down quietly and listen for their names to be called.  After they receive their cards, one of our volunteers will lead them to the correct row and make sure that they are in the right place at all times.

If You Miss an Event:  We hope that no one will miss an event, but if you do, take your child to the pool referee.  We will do our best to work it out so that everyone can swim

After the freestyle swim, dry off and wait for the backstroke announcement.  Repeat the same procedure for backstroke, and for freestyle relays.

Please stay the entire duration of the meet.  Freestyle relays will go off immediately following the mini-IM.  We will need lots of parent help (have a Sharpie ready to mark the relay information on the swimmers)

There are individual awards for 6 and under high point winners immediately following the session Friday.  The coaches will let you know if you have a contender as the meet progresses.
